Dave was born in Stapleford in 1949 and knows the locality well, having lived most of his life in Stapleford; his parents were also born in Stapleford and lived here all their lives. He attended William Lilley, Fairfield and Bramcote Hills Grammar School. This was followed by a period at Leeds University, where he gained a B.Sc. Hons degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Following University, Dave worked locally for Rediffusion (East Midlands), for some 15 years, as an engineering troubleshooter on large cable TV networks etc. He then retrained as a physics & mathematics teacher gaining a post-graduate certificate in education at what was then Clifton Teacher Training College. He then worked as a school teacher at several secondary schools in London before taking early retirement some 17 years ago, in order to return to Stapleford to look after his elderly parents.
Originally co-opted onto the council in 2006, before being elected to represent the South East Ward in 2007, 2011 and 2015. Dave is the Leader of the Stapleford Alliance Party and at present also the Leader of the town council.
Dave has been an active governor at William Lilley School for nearly 10 years and was particularly involved in the school gaining the Stephen Lawrence Award. The first school in Broxtowe to do so.
When he does have any free time, which is not much these days, he enjoys tracing family history and his hobby of amateur radio.
