STAPLEFORD GARDEN COMPETITION AWARDS EVENING

A bloomin’ great time was had by all

An awards evening was held on the 20th September 2019 at the Carnegie Civic & Community Centre, Warren Ave for the residents of Stapleford who have been keeping their garden’s in tip top condition throughout the year.

Stapleford resident Joy Collinson and her budding gardeners with The Mayor of Stapleford.

The judging of each garden takes place in July when gardens are at their best bloom and this year, The Mayor of Stapleford, Councillor Ray Darby and his wife Maureen had the pleasure of judging the entrants.

Residents were judged on various categories such as Best Small, Medium and Large Garden and there were prizes for best hanging baskets, rockery and planters. A first-time entrant award is always recognised, and this year saw garden newbie Joy Collinson and her children take home the ‘Diane Diamond’ award.

Terence Frost, another Stapleford resident who scooped prizes for his hanging baskets and Best Large Garden also took home the Bardill’s Shield for ‘Overall Winner’ in recognition of his dedication to his outstanding garden.

Along with the cups and shields, our green fingered residents were awarded with gift vouchers for Bardill’s Garden Centre.

Stapleford Town Council would like to thank the residents who took part in this year’s competition. A Town Council meeting will decide whether the competition will continue next year but in the hope it does, look out for how you too can get involved!
